Today I added a new and rather rare opera to DM’s Opera Website: Galathée by Victor Massé — now available in a complete French–English side-by-side libretto format.
Unlike Carmen, La traviata, or The Magic Flute, Galathée is not a standard repertory opera today and is only rarely staged. But that is exactly one of the reasons I wanted to include it in the collection.
One of the goals of this website has never been only to preserve the most famous operas. I also want to make lesser-known and forgotten works more accessible to curious listeners, students, collectors, and opera lovers who enjoy exploring beyond the standard repertoire.
Galathée, first performed in 1852, is a charming French opéra comique based on the classical myth of Pygmalion and Galatea. The music is elegant, light, and distinctly French in character, with the lyrical style typical of mid-19th-century Parisian opera.
As always, the libretto is presented in a clear side-by-side format, with the original French text alongside an English translation, making it easier to follow the opera while listening or reading.

I hope this addition will help bring a little more attention to a composer and opera that deserve to be remembered.
