LibrettoArchive (www.librettoarchive.com) is run by Dmitrii Murashev. This page explains what personal information the website collects, why, who else handles it, and what you can do about it. If anything is unclear, please get in touch through the contact form.

What we collect

  • Your account. If you register, your email address, your name, and a password. The password is stored only as a one-way hash; nobody, including me, can read it.
  • Sign in with Google. If you choose “Continue with Google”, Google tells us your name, your email address (and that Google has verified it), and an internal Google account ID. We receive nothing else: no access to your Gmail, contacts, Drive or any other Google data, and we never see your Google password.
  • Optional profile details. A short bio and your country of residence, if you fill them in. If you don’t choose a country, we estimate it from your IP address when you visit (see below), so that I can see roughly where readers are from. You can change or clear it on My Profile.
  • Your activity on the site. The operas you mark as favourites, the operas you have unlocked, and the time you were last active.
  • Comments. If you comment on a libretto page, the text of your comments and translation suggestions, when you posted them, the upvotes you give and any reports you make. Your comments are public: they are shown with the display name you choose when you write your first comment (never your email address). Pick a name you are happy to share; it does not have to be your real name.
  • Purchases. If you buy a subscription or unlock an opera, payment is handled by Stripe. We keep a record of what you bought, the amount, the date and the status. We never see or store your card number.
  • Newsletter. Whether you have asked to receive occasional emails about new operas and features. Every email contains an unsubscribe link, and you can also change this on My Profile.
  • Messages you send us. A message sent through the contact form is emailed to me. It is not stored in the website’s database. A short log entry (your email address and whether the message was sent) is kept on the server.
  • Technical data. Like any website, our hosting provider’s servers handle your IP address and browser details when you load a page, and may keep them in standard access logs for security and troubleshooting. We use your IP address only at that moment, to estimate your country; the address itself is not saved in our database.

Cookies

  • Essential cookies keep you signed in and protect forms: a session cookie, a security token, and, if you stay signed in, a “remember me” cookie that lasts up to 30 days. Without these the account features would not work.
  • Google Analytics sets cookies that give me anonymous statistics about which pages are read, so that I know what to improve. It does not identify you personally to us.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile (a bot check on the registration and contact forms) and Stripe (on payment pages) may set cookies needed for security and fraud prevention.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The public pages will still work, but you won’t be able to stay signed in.

How we use your information

  • to create and run your account, and to give you the access you have paid for;
  • to send you email that the service needs (email verification, password reset, receipts and payment problems), and, only if you agreed, the newsletter;
  • to run the discussion on libretto pages and keep it free of spam and abuse;
  • to answer your messages;
  • to keep the site secure and prevent abuse;
  • to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used and where its readers are from.

I do not sell your personal information and do not use it for advertising.

Who else handles your information

These companies process data on our behalf, only for the purposes above:

  • Google: sign-in and Google Analytics.
  • Stripe: payments and payment receipts.
  • Brevo: sending email (verification, notices, newsletter) and keeping the newsletter list.
  • Cloudflare: the Turnstile bot check.
  • DigitalOcean: the servers the website and its database run on.

These providers may process data in countries other than your own. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

Information we get from Google

LibrettoArchive’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The name, email address and account ID we receive from Google are used only to create your account and sign you in. They are not used for advertising and are not shared with anyone except the service providers listed above.

How long we keep it

Account information is kept while your account exists. Accounts whose email address is never verified are deleted automatically after 7 days. Comments stay on the site until you or I remove them; if your account is deleted they may remain, shown as “Deleted user”, unless you ask me to remove them. Records of payments are kept for as long as accounting and tax rules require. If you ask me to delete your account, I remove your personal details, except for what I must keep by law.

Your choices and rights

You can view and change your name, bio, country and newsletter choice on My Profile. You can delete your own comments at any time, and edit them for 15 minutes after posting. You can also ask me, through the contact form, for a copy of the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete your account. Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, the UK or California) the law may give you further rights, such as objecting to certain processing; tell me and I will respect them. If you are in the EU or UK you can also complain to your local data-protection authority.

Security and children

The site is served over HTTPS and passwords are stored hashed. No system is perfectly secure, but I take reasonable care. The website is not meant for children under 16, and I do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, I will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell registered users by email.
