Tosca: Italian–English Side-by-Side Libretto With Translation

I have completed a new revision of Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca on LibrettoArchive.

The Italian–English libretto has been reviewed throughout. I corrected a number of OCR and typographical errors in both languages, standardized character names, stage directions and formatting, and revised several places where the existing English translation was unclear or did not accurately reflect the Italian.

One of the more noticeable corrections comes in Act III, when Tosca tells Cavaradossi what happened with Scarpia:

“Sei mia?” Sì. Alla sua brama mi promisi.

The previous English text began, “Is it yes? He asked, and yes, I promised myself to his lust.” Scarpia’s direct and forceful question had been lost. It now reads:

“Are you mine?” “Yes.” To his desire I promised myself.

The surrounding passage has also been revised to follow the Italian more closely while reading naturally in English.

The character list has been reviewed and standardized as well, and numerous smaller corrections have been made throughout all three acts.
