Il trittico is a set of three one-act operas by Giacomo Puccini: Il tabarro, Suor Angelica, and Gianni Schicchi. Conceived as a single work, the three operas contrast sharply in mood—a dark tragedy, a lyrical spiritual drama, and a brilliant comedy. They premiered together at the Metropolitan Opera in New York on 14 December 1918. Critical reaction was mixed, although Gianni Schicchi quickly emerged as the most popular and frequently performed of the three.
