Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio) is a German singspiel in three acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, first performed in 1782 in Vienna. Blending spoken dialogue with music, it tells the story of the noble Belmonte’s attempt to rescue his beloved Konstanze from the palace of a Turkish Pasha. The opera is famous for its lively comedy, dazzling vocal writing, and colorful “Turkish” orchestration, reflecting the fascination of 18th-century Europe with the Ottoman world.
