Galathée is a two-act French opéra comique by Victor Massé, first performed on April 14, 1852 at the Opéra-Comique (Salle Favart) in Paris. Inspired by the classical myth of Pygmalion and Galatea, the opera tells the story of a sculptor whose statue magically comes to life. Combining light comedy, graceful melodies, and elegant orchestration, Galathée reflects the refined and charming style of mid-19th-century French opera. Though rarely performed today, it remains an appealing example of French Romantic comic opera.
