Luigi Cherubini

Luigi Cherubini (1760–1842) was an Italian-born composer who spent most of his career in France and became one of the leading figures of European opera around the turn of the 19th century. Admired for his dramatic intensity, rich orchestration, and masterful counterpoint, he is best known today for the opera Médée (1797). His music formed an important bridge between the Classical and Romantic eras and was highly regarded by composers including Beethoven and Brahms.
